WORK, MEASURED CLEARLY / UK
Work Hours Calculator UK — Breaks & Overnight Shifts
Calculate UK shift hours with your actual unpaid breaks. Use 24-hour times, check overnight work and get a decimal total for your timesheet.
Your shift
Use 09:00 / 17:00. AM and PM entries also work. An earlier end time means next day. No break is deducted unless you enter it. Paid breaks stay included.
Pay estimate Optional
Example settings only. Confirm the threshold and multiplier for your calculation.

THE METHOD
Calculate a shift from your clock-in and clock-out times
Enter the start and finish of each shift, then enter the break you actually took. The UK calculator starts with zero break minutes; it does not impose a statutory lunch deduction. Tick Paid break when that interval should stay in your paid total. Use Add another shift for a split working day.
A worked example
09:00 to 17:30 is 510 minutes. With a 45-minute unpaid lunch, the total is 465 minutes: 7 hours 45 minutes, or 7.75 decimal hours.
We calculate clock time, not elapsed time across daylight-saving changes. Pay estimates exclude taxes and deductions. Read the full methodology →
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
How do I enter a night shift?
Enter 22:00 to 06:00 for an eight-hour shift before breaks. An earlier finish is treated as the following day. A 30-minute unpaid break leaves 7 hours 30 minutes. Equal start and finish times are not accepted.
Can I estimate pay in pounds?
Expand Pay estimate to enter your hourly rate. GBP is selected initially; the estimate excludes deductions. Overtime is optional: use the threshold and multiplier from your own arrangement, rather than treating example settings as statutory entitlements.
Does the calculator decide my break entitlement?
No. It subtracts the unpaid minutes you enter. Break entitlements and whether a break is paid are separate questions; the UK lunch-break guide links to GOV.UK guidance.
