WORK, MEASURED CLEARLY / US
Work Hours Calculator
Calculate a shift, subtract lunch, and see your exact hours and payroll decimal in one place.
Your shift
Use 9:00 AM / 5:00 PM. 24-hour entries also work. An earlier end time means next day.
Pay estimate Optional
Example settings only. Confirm the threshold and multiplier for your calculation.
Total paid time

THE METHOD
How your result is calculated
Use this as a shift length or work hours with lunch calculator. Add another shift for a split workday. An earlier end time means the shift ends the next day; the +1 day label makes this explicit.
A worked example
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM is 480 minutes. Subtract a 30-minute unpaid lunch to get 450 minutes: 7 hours 30 minutes, or 7.50 decimal hours.
We calculate clock time, not elapsed time across daylight-saving changes. Pay estimates exclude taxes and deductions. Read the full methodology →
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Does a paid lunch reduce my hours?
No. Select Paid break to include the break in paid time. Confirm your arrangement with your employer.
Can I enter an overnight shift?
Yes. 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM counts as eight hours before breaks. Equal start and end times are rejected because they are ambiguous.
