THE METHOD

How your result is calculated

The threshold applies once to the total hours entered. For two separate weeks, use the biweekly tool. This calculator does not determine eligibility or apply daily overtime, premium stacking, or jurisdiction-specific rules.

The formulaRegular hours = min(total hours, threshold). Overtime hours = max(0, total hours − threshold). Pay = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × multiplier.

A worked example

For a chosen threshold of 40 hours, 45 hours at $20 with a 1.5× multiplier gives $800 regular pay plus $150 overtime pay: $950 gross.

We calculate clock time, not elapsed time across daylight-saving changes. Pay estimates exclude taxes and deductions. Read the full methodology →

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Is 40 hours a legal recommendation?

No. It is an editable example. Set the threshold and multiplier appropriate to the calculation you need.

When is pay rounded?

Regular and overtime pay components are rounded to cents after calculation, then added. Hours are not rounded before multiplication.
