A worked example

7.75 decimal hours × 60 = 465 minutes, which is 7 hours 45 minutes. 7.30 decimal hours means 7 hours 18 minutes, not 7 hours 30 minutes.

Why is 7.50 equal to 7 hours 30 minutes?

The fractional part is half an hour. Half of 60 minutes is 30 minutes.

How are half minutes rounded?

A positive value exactly halfway between whole minutes rounds up. For example, 0.025 hours becomes 2 minutes.
